Dutch Central Bank Says It Didn’t Buy Gold in December via Kitco News

To add confusion to the gold market, the Dutch central bank says that it hasn’t increased its gold reserves, correcting earlier information from the International Monetary Fund.

The Dutch central bank did repatriate (bring home) 122.5 tonnes of gold back to Amsterdam from the U.S. in November, but they didn’t buy more. Even the IMF doesn’t know all that’s going on with gold.

So, the mainstream media is starting to report on the safe haven buying of gold.

The tone of the articles is an “isn’t this weird” vibe. The long season gold and economist people have been suggesting (or heavily advising) that their followers purchase gold bullion, because they see an alarming upheaval ahead and gold is the only thing that keeps its value.

The mainstream is exactly that — mainstream. Mainstream news reports on what is happening. We alternatives are looking at the past, at patterns, and making suggesting on what is going to happen and how to prepare for it.

My part to play is in the artist mind. There are many good economists who will show you graphs and numbers. I lean towards the discipline of the field of communications — how the message or idea goes from one person, is coded, goes through a medium (or a group of media), and is uncoded to another person or group of people. That’s the essence of media. It can include propaganda (renamed social relations after World War 11), and deals with power imbalances, manipulation and persuasion.

I use music and lyrics in metaphor to link things we are familiar with to something the listener may not have noticed before. I use this blog for the same thing.

There’s an economic winter coming. It could be a mild freeze or a blinding snowstorm, depending on where you live and how you have prepared. But the mainstream, though not reporting a prediction for the IMG_1054future, is now reporting on news items that add up to a picture showing that there is uncertainty and an imbalance in power. There is tension in many places. Trust is falling apart — many times for good reason.

Parties are jockeying for position now, and if you watch you will see that we are being publicly told one thing, while they are doing another. The Swiss central bank’s recent unannounced split from the euro peg, while very recently reassuring it would stay pegged, is an example.

Empires rise and fall. Big ones and little ones. If they make it through the winter then they have a beautiful spring. If not, then they are absorbed by another empire, either physically or financially.

My aim is to see beauty and feel solid and balanced while it’s all happening. My art is to point to ideas that might give others the feeling of “me too” and bring inspiration for their own way to see beauty and feel solid as well.

Get yourself some financial mittens even though the sun is shining — and slip in a bit of silver and gold.
